What Are Some Good Honeymoon Registries That Give You The Money More Than Like A Week Before Your Wedding?
We want to do a honeymoon registry because we both have all the home stuff, so much so that we’re having a HUGE yard sale to get it all to a manageable size! I have looked at some honeymoon registries, but they issue you a check only like a week before the wedding. I’ll be teaching and my fiance will be in law school and we are paying for the wedding ourselves so to plan the trip we would need it sooner. I did find one site that gave you instant/anytime access but it’s called buy our honeymoon and I think that is just tacky. Help?

I think it’s tacky that you expect wedding gifts before the wedding.
If you can’t afford your honeymoon without that money, you need to rethink your honeymoon.
I’m sorry, but paying for the honeymoon is the responsibility of the couple, not their friends and relatives.
The fact that you want to do this in lieu of registering for other gifts makes it slightly better, but you’ll just have to put up with whatever conditions the sites specify.
And you’re right: “Buy Our Honeymoon” makes this even tackier than it already is.
I agree with the rest. You’re correct that the title “Buy Our Honeymoon” is completely gauche, but that’s exactly what you’re asking people to do with any of these websites, and unless they’re terminally stupid, they’ll realize this.
There is no such thing as a good honeymoon registry. If you can’t afford a vacation, don’t go on one. Why should your guests have to subsidize your inability to plan properly and save your own money?
The Wall Street Journal and Frommer’s Travel Guides have articles on honeymoon registries that I’ve included links to below. From an etiquette standpoint I think it is perfectly fine. With couples getting married much older and having established households, why not celebrate your marriage with a once in a lifetime honeymoon instead of another toaster! We received more gifts on our honeymoon registry than our Crate & Barrel and REI registries combined!

There are a lot of options out there if you would prefer the gift of your honeymoon (or money to use towards anything special) to more traditional gifts. It’s becoming the norm these days, and it’s really all in how you position it; what’s the difference in registering for dishes vs a hotel room or even a new home down payment? I’m sure you didn’t intend your question to sound like you were using your wedding for a fundraising event, which is how a lot of people responded. Don’t worry, there are tons of options! I researched them ALL, so hopefully this will save you some trouble
The company we decided to work with is called http://www.depositagift.com You can register for anything with them.
You can redeem your money at any time; you’ll probably want to get what is there before the wedding and then get the rest after the wedding, since lots of guests give after. One of the things we like most is that they include the wedding website and the website address is very discreet and customized (example: http://yourname.mydagsite.com) Checkout the samples for ideas.
I hope that was helpful!
