If you donate to the running costs of a forum do you then have any rights/say as to how it is run? Should you be able to ask where and how the money is spent?
That would depend on whether it is a forum that you use as a service, example get advice for pc problems, download free programs etc, you don’t know the forum owners and they have a “if you can please donate to help keep this site going” type of ad and you choose to donate……..
In those circumstances you wouldn’t expect to be able to tell them what to do or how to spend the money and you certainly wouldn’t have any “rights” so to speak.
If it is a website between friends then you should compromise and discuss what is to be spent on what, and there should be no harm in wanting to ask what the money is going on.
Having “legal rights” would not come into it unless stated in some sort of agreement.
No you dont have any rights or say unless they stated in the rules, that members who donate get some form of rights or say so. Of course you could make a suggestion how you would like things to be done as most forums would not want to lose a member who is willing to make donation.
Some forums even give members special ranks such as mods, or admin status but your really need to talk to the administrators of the forum to know for sure.
Hope that helps.
Any income must be declared to the Taxman if not through employment. You need to fill in a self-assessment form as it is your legal duty to assess your own tax. Speak to your local IR office.
